Ok, I've locked out the 'Deplorable' steps but the standard jack will still not fit in its correct cup

Never had a problem jacking up under the lower wishbone arm at the rear, spread the load with a suitable wood block. This OK if just changing a wheel, as you aren't "going under" and you can always put a safety stand under your jacking point if needs be. .
