Battery Management System????

Had changed my battery, but still have problems with dreaded "HDC inactive" message after a few days. I don't have any significant battery drain (about 20 mA), replaced alternator and also FSR. Aaaaaargghhhh Evil or Very Mad Big Cry

So today went to a battery specialist and he told me that my car had a Battery Management System (BMS) which might be the cause of my problems (battery not fully charged, while battery is OK). He said that with a battery replacement the new battery should be programmed by the dealer to the ECU. Question:
1. Is a FF Td6 MY 2005 equipped with a BMS?
2. Has anyone heard of, or experience with reprogramming the battery?
3. Can I do this with the IID Tool?

Any other suggestions most welcome!!!!! Bow down Bow down

Had the battery connected to the charger overnight and battery was fully and deeply charged. Had the FBH running twice for half an hour (it takes initailly 22A and after 5 minutes constantly another 17A). After that cycle I had still 12.35V in the battery.
Makes me think that the battery indeed wasn't fully charged. But how come Question Question Question
Any suggestions about the BMS? Is my car equipped with that? I couldn't find anything about it in the Rave.
Any help much appreciated Bow down

Sorry I don't have an answer for you about a BMS. I am surprised that one of the more knowledgable members have not come back to you as yet.

If it helps, I find that if I am not using the FF for a few days, I have to connect the battery charger on a trickle charge. Even with a brand new battery.

I find it amazing that systems continue to operate for about 20 minutes after switching the ignition off. Then if you unlock the car to get something, various systems become active and again run for about 20 minutes. So unlock and lock your vehicle several times without starting and giving it a run and you soon end up with a flat battery Rolling Eyes

Yes, IPHS this is a silly configuration that each time it wakes up it takes some 20 minutes and consuming 7A .
Still my problem is why the alternator doesn't fully charge the battery Question
Hope one of the "electrical" guys comes up soon with some help Mr. Green

I'm not an expert on this but I think BMWs of that vintage have a battery management system that needs a reset when you replace a battery (the E65 7 series has this). If you don't reset it then the car doesn't know it has a new battery and treats the new one like the old one and can cause problems. I'm not sure it has an effect so quickly though.

I'm having battery issues at the moment so this topic is of particular interest to me. In my case I'm getting Terrain warnings related to low voltage (I think), even on a new battery.
