Another TD6 power loss.....

HI Guys......

Please help !

I have just bought a TD6, having owned several Range Rovers before.. (Classics and P38's)

I have 2 problems which I think are related.

1) Loss of power after driving for a couple of miles. But it comes back if you keep for foot in ! It had a ll filters done in February (Fuel, pollen, oil and breather
There is good pressure from the secondary pump. In the service history I found three invoices this year relating to this
In feb... it was diagnosed with a gearbox fault, rectified by "repair back plate as best possible, requires new back plate" I cant think what this relates to !
In March it was collapsed intercooler pipes, so new ones were fitted together with a new intercooler !
In June the previous owner took it into the main stealer and they diagnosed a cracked inlet manifold.. which I dont think has been replaced... would this be the problem ? I have googled this and nothing has come up !

2) Loud Chirping noise from under the bonnet when under load. Changes with Engine speed... not road speed, but also changesintensity with throttle position !

please help !

Beau

Well a leak in the manifold would give both those symptoms so I'd get it checked....

The back plate could be the flex plate on the torque convertor, it could make the noise you describe, does it sound metallic?? Pete

Thanks Haylands, yes it does sound metallic, if it had changed with road speed instead of engine speed i would be sure it was universal joints ! It's that sort of noise!

Do you know if the manifolds have any particular weak points , I'll have it off at the weekend and inspect !

I've got a V8 so no I don't sorry, someone with one will be along soon no doubt...

Stick it in off road height, in park and handbrake on, leave a door open to stop the suspension leveling and crawl underneath to see if the noise is coming from the bell housing.... Pete

Thanks Pete,
Already had listen underneath ... Nothing untoward from the bell housing, although it only makes the noise under load !

I'm gonna do a transmission oil change soon anyway!

More info gleaned from a conversation with the previous owner last night !

Inlet manifold has been replaced ! As has the entire inter cooler system.

When the fault was replicated with textbook plugged in at the main dealer it was showing a drop in turbo pressure , but they didn't seem to think it was the turbo itself !

Any ideas ?
