Did the "full air treatment" and...

On thursday morning I received a "full air kit" (new improved filter, new breather and EGR blanking kit) for my TD6 and installed it immediately.

MPG figures, although in KM/L, can be seen in the picture below ("consumo 1"/trip 1 is before treatment, "consumo 2"/trip 2 is after). Trips are more or less the same, and consist in 80% urban jam and 20% sub-urban junctions with 55mph limit.

As for performance improvement... well... of course it makes a HUGE difference. The most noticeable thing is that now the car pulls from standstills like, well... a normal car. In traffic jam I can drive it by only applying a minimum amount of throttle. It seems to breathe properly now, if I may say so. I also noticed less slippage of the torque converter in the low revs, and also promptier gear changes in the lower band (although as smooth as usual). Only downside, a slight increase in induction noise.

So far, so good. Thumbs Up

There is a question I have: in urban traffic jam, when decelerating by lifting the throttle between 1500 and 2000rpm, I can clearly hear a sort of "whoomp" from the engine bay. Cannot describe it in other ways, but it reminds me of the noise of an overheated clutch in a manual car, except for the fact that it happens when decelerating. No discernable mechanical vibration/noises associated. This symptom happens only in city traffic and in the aformentioned rpm band, with warm engine.

What can it be? Is it related to the torque converter (it has 40.000kms from new, as the gearbox,, oil flushed on May 2014), is it the turbo releasing pressure? Opinions welcome!

Mine def has more induction noise after fitting k & n.

Egr removal will make turbo spool up slightly sooner I believe.

If you have a remap and come off the throttle, it almost sounds like a Subaru Imprezza....

Hi Andy, cost for the stuff (egr blanking kit, breather filter and new air filter, shipped) was 143€. Fitted by myself.

As for MPG, maybe it's a bit too early, but I can safely say that there's a good 10-20% improvement, if not even more in some circumstances. Roberto

The mpg will settle after a while.

Did you fit the upgraded vortex crankcase breather from BMW ?

Never needs changing again........

Occasionally at the twin traffic lights I get the urge to floor it after holding the brake on for it to get to 2000 revs to launch it, laugh at the other car who thinks its a block on wheels in the rear view mirror Rolling with laughter _____________________________________________________

My mpg is roughly where it was before, but car is more lively.

Have a search for crankcase breather and I'm sure there is a how to.

No more difficult than changing the original foam element, though to be fair, the garage did mine whilst servicing it.

If you fit a performance air filter as well, you can save a bit on servicing as they don't need to be changed and the cover of the engine doesn't need to come off......

Though you don't leave the performance air filter forever....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
