The only real option for easy audio in is OEM LR. All adapters that work with BMW stuff will not work on the touch-screen system: they are only for the 02-04 pre-touch systems - which are BMW systems except for the foundry finish on the faceplate of the head unit. The android head unit is actually for the BMW models as well: the faceplate is curved and black to fit an older X5.

That unit replaces the CD changer in the car, and becomes a CD emulator. It is expensive for what it does, I'm not too sure as to the set up on the later touch screen systems, but I believe that they are digital and are linked by a single coax to the main system. There are a lot of cheaper units out there, some require the addition of a digital to analogue converter, but these are inexpensive.

I'm getting a lot of confusion here. The original request was for a touch screen interface which would provide USB. From your post, miggit, it appears that you are referring to what you did with a non-touch screen which is a different beast from the touch screen version.

Hi bud, just found this picture on the intaweb, shows a coax type cd that requires the use of a DSP converter!

Logic 7 and MOST system. I have tried to ascertain exactly whose system is fitted and it's beginning to look as if it isn't BMW.

Not upgraded just standard MY2005. The MOST system works on fibre optic. Not to worry. It can be done but means spending a lot of money just to get USB capability. John 2008 Stornoway Grey 3.6 Tdv8 Vogue - SOLD 2005 TD6 Java Black Vogue - Written off!! GAP iiD BT-Sold |

No such thing in a RR. Either non-touch BMW (i-Bus) based or touch MOST based. 2002-04 is i-Bus, 2005-12 MOST. There is actually quite a bit of info on these systems floating around - Colin (the owner of BlackBox Solutions) explains quite a bit in a thread he started to highlight retrofitting a MOST system into an early 2002-04 L322. Search for the "Ultimate Infotainment Upgrade" thread if interested. Despite the fact that aftermarket head units are getting better, I still much prefer the OEM components augmented with aftermarket - or some sort of CarPC. All integrated to look and function as OEM. I would not install a curved-face X5 unit and lose the integration with the rest of the vehicle systems. But that is just my opinion. You can do all sorts of things based on OEM components. Look through here at some of the threads started by Joe90, Daveo, or MattStevenson. Yes it is somewhat more expensive, but, christ, you are driving a GBP70000 vehicle. Why would you want to compromise that experience with cheap electronics? ![]() RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr, P38, and 2 L322s (wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too) |
