Yeah well I used to be a class 1 driver, heavy haulage actually, trains 'n' stuff. And I packed up because of the fact that the job turned into "logistics" and the average IQ of their drivers dropped to negative numbers.
I've heard it all before, you won't get this, you won't get that. Yeah we will, it'll just happen in a different timescale and to be frank, most supermarkets have the bulk of their fleet out when the roads are quiet to save fuel.
The thing most drivers don't get is that they are paid to drive whereas for the rest of us we only drive to get to work and trucks do nothing but cause us delay & congestion with thoughtless and mindless driving, not that it requires much of a thought process these days with auto boxes, power steering, electric everything and creature comforts better than home. My first truck was a Scammel Crusader 6x4 of 1979 vintage. Didn't even have power steering, never mind air-con, leather, autoboxes, yeah, try driving an Eaton Twinsplitter one day. That was when we worked for a living.
So since there's so little to do except mind a steering wheel, is it too much to ask that they drive considerately? Not really.
And school runs don't cause tailbacks that are several miles long. Nuff said.
