Door lock malfunction

Had several experiences of the front passenger door lock malfunctioning. The door lock fails to release when the passenger pulls the inner handle to open door. The door is locked (manually or with drive away locking) and when functioning correctly should allow the passenger to open the door by pulling on the handle when the vehicle comes to rest without any other inputs (e.g. Central unlock or door unlock buttons). My vehicle allows this when functioning correctly, but when malfunction occurs door lock will not release and passenger cannot exit vehicle. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE as I have pointed out to the dealer. In the event of an accident or vehicle fire the passenger would have to be able to climb over the central console to exit via the driver's door. Dealer has had three goes at sorting this but fails to understand issue and reports that the data logger is showing no record of faults on the passenger door lock module. Finally, yesterday when collecting the car from Warranty visit 10, the fault occurred and I was able to summon technician to witness the malfunction. He now understands the problem and will raise a technical query with JLR and report back to me......... FFRR user since 1974. RR No. 10 (2021MY P525 delivered Nov 2020)

you were lucky that the fault occurred whilst you had the opportunity to prove it to a technician, most times the fault doesnt show when you are at the dealer so i recommend making a video to show the techs..

hope you get this sorted soon.. ... - .- -.

I had supplied the attached photograph showing the impossible situation of the "Locked" door opened from the outside but with the "locked" light still illuminated. They concluded this was "normal" behaviour after checking on an "identical" vehicle. If this is truly the case then my vehicle may not be the only DANGEROUS Range Rover out there!! I'll make them a video next time as you suggest. Pity a video can't record some of the other recurrent defects on my car like the FBH smell! FFRR user since 1974. Thanks for that Stan but this is a specific issue caused by the repositioning of the FBH on the L405 which resulted in the exhaust pipe discharging toward the transmission tunnel area. (i.e. closer to the passenger compartment). This defect of design has been the topic covered in Thread "Smell of fumes from 4.4 SDV8 when driving slowly" on this site. FFRR user since 1974. you'd think that when they did the R & D on the l405 that they would have come across this problem and sorted it out... ... - .- -.

I notice that you're in Strathclyde, just out of interest, which local dealer are you using?

Re: Door lock malfunction

Unnecessary quote removed

JLR responded by sending a new door latch mechanism as they reasoned that, although no fault was being logged, this had to be the most likely culprit. The replacement has (to date) been successful in eliminating the problem. FFRR user since 1974. RR No. 10 (2021MY P525 delivered Nov 2020)
