United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV6 Corris Grey
Land Rover In Control Secure Tracker

Apologies for not introducing myself before now. I'm collecting my TDV6 Vogue SE in the morning. My first Land Rover after many loyal years of Jaguar ownership. I'm trying to arrange insurance and insurers are insisting that a tracking device is fitted, unsurprisingly. However, my current insurer (Aviva) informs me that the Land Rover In Control Secure tracker that I've specified on my car is not listed on their approved list, meaning I would have to pay again to have a different make of tracker fitted. They will cover me anyway, subject to me having an approved device fitted within 30 days. I have requested that the underwriters review the In Control Secure device, which Land Rover describe as "Thatcham Approved", so Aviva's position may change on this. My question is, what experience do others have on this matter? Which insurers accept the Land Rover In Control Secure system as an approved tracker?

Many thanks and regards

Robert

Hi Trebor,
I also changed from Jaguar to RR after having 6 Jags on the roll. You won't look back.
When i purchased my latest RR last month my original insurer starting talking garages and security posts as well as a tracker Exclamation
The insurance company I ended up with simply wanted a tracker fitted.I got the broker to liase directly with the dealer who
then organised the tracker to the required spec.Could you get the dealer to talk to the insurance company?

Due to the speed I wanted the car for i was scared i wouldn't get the tracker fitted in time.In the end i did but like your own experience the insurance company informed me that i had a period of time to get this sorted.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Bertie. I suspect I'll ended up having the dealer arrange for an approved tracking device to be fitted, but I'm going to pursue Aviva to see if they can approve the In Control device.

Admiral just wanted the fact that there was a "tracker" fitted. I mentioned LR InControl Secure (perhaps better than the more apt InSecure) was a tracer system over the phone and they were content with that - albeit this was for a Supercharged Sport but I imagine the same is applicable to Vogues.

Update: good news, Aviva have called to say that the InControl a secure tracker has now been approved. I need to chase them for written confirmation but verbally they've given the ok.

I also want to replace my Jaguar with a latest land rover. I am doing research on the land rover car models that best fit in my budget. I have shortlisted Range Rover Sport. Can anyone provide detail information on this model?

I can provide you with detailed information on the Range Rover Sport: it is bloody good.

I hope that helps.

To elaborate, it looks good, drives nicely and will make you look a million dollars.

Due to pick up my new L405 in a few days. The dealer has just phoned to advise that they are fitting the In Control tracker at no cost and with three years subscription. I wonder whether this is LR's response to the key cloning concerns of insurers?

Hmmmm, seems as though the InControl Secure is Thatcham Category 6, when most insurers require the higher Category 5.

Evil or Very Mad

On the bright side, in being forced to change from my existing insurer because of this issue, I have found cheaper cover 😄.

Some insurance companies don’t recognise the LR tracker because it’s nit automatic, relying on the owner to notify of the unauthorised use of the vehicle. My insurer provides a discount but not as big as the full independent tracker fitted. 2008 RRS HST - loved the car from 6 months old until a few years old
2009 Disco HSE - nice and practical alternative when I needed the space.
VW T5 Transporter - mid life crisis perhaps
2017 FFRR 4.4AB - best car I’ve ever owned

I used to insure with NFU but the premium crept up to over £800.00. Having recently passed the big five 0 tried Saga and the fee dropped to less than £380 with no questions about security. You may of course be considerably younger !
