I use it when manoeuvring the caravan mainly because it modifies the accelerator response making it easy to move slowly, the extra torque helps with going up onto ramps as well.

None of the above for me.

I use my RR's off road. And while, especially in the case of the LM, that isn't monthly, it does happen several times a year at least - so I don't worry about it.

Like Ian, I also use low at times to maneuver my trailer when it's particularly heavy. 
RRC 2Dr, RRC 4Dr,
P38, and 2 L322s
(wife thinks I'm nuts - prob right, too)

yep Thrasher is right a low box is merely just an extra set of gears.

You could drive 500 miles with it and not do any harm as long as you don't over rev the engine. I have one vehicle that is almost permanently in low box, its used off road and on hard tarmac roads heavy towing - never ever an issue.

Well, would you believe it, the day after I posted about it not coming back to high(normal) ratio having tried weekly for two years, I tried it today, and it came back from low to high - three times in a row. Not holding breath but thatnks for the karma Tim Laughing

And thanks all for the confirmation re low ratios, as I thought Smile .
