MK4 DVD circuit board photo - help me figure this out!

Hi,

Happy new year to everyone!

I'm trying to repair a broken MK4 DVD player. I bought this broken as no power and when connected has the eject light on but no main power light and no motor function etc.

On inspection there is an area of the circuit on the bottom that is clearly been damaged by a voltage overload. I've cleaned it up and replaced the LE50 chip in the corner (5V Low Dropout voltage regulator) as its input pin was burned off. However there is clearly another chip that has overheated and is missing and I do not know what it is. The board seems to have a hidden layer making it almost impossible to debug.

In the absence of any decent service information would any kind member have a unit they could photo to show me what chip is missing? I'll publish all my findings!

Much appreciated James

Hi Stan,

I've tried that...searched for ages as I'd hoped someone would have put up a pic of water damage etc...but nothing! I'm looking for a pic of the bottom of the board, you can see it when you pull the bottom case off.

Fingers crossed!

James

James,

I stumbled upon this thread from google, trying to find answers to a BMW MK4 DVD sat nav unit.
Is this the unit you are talking about?
I have one in the boot of my brother in laws car that I was trying to get repaired.
Long story short, I thought the RAM was corrupted as it's behavior indicated as so. Took it to a gentleman to repair who in turn found out the PCB was water damaged.

He advised against repairing it, but it could be done. It is just not knowing what component would fail after being fixed.

Anyway, if you are still looking into this I could get the unit back off my brother in law and take a photo of the board to help answer your question.

Regards,

I
