Gents just to keep everyone up to date I had a new gearbox in my 2007 4.2 in August this year since then have done 9000 miles . Went back to stealers today and went out with Steve their workshop manager - top bloke - for test drive the result is it is going in next tuesday for evaluation symptoms thump on changing up at low speed also holding gear after acceleration and foot taken off throttle. They are also going to look at the whole drive train to see if there is any abnormal wear so we may be in for another gearbox as he thinks it is a failing solenoid. The reason for doing it now is that the LR warranty runs out at end of Feb albeit the new gearbox is under JLR warranty so we shall know more next Tuesday

Have to say the Stealer has been very good and offers discounts on service rates to returning customers still a bit more expensive but I always get a courtesy car.

Yes think it can but be careful read of someone who reset theirs to factory settings and it was rough as you like as it had adjusted to compensate for wear but sure someone else maybe Phil would be able to tell us |

Simply clears the memory Stan... Kind of like a ctrl/alt/del for your gearbox sir... The gearbox runs on a rolling 75 mile memory, what they are saying is... If the gearbox has picked up some rouge information and memorised it, clearing the adoptions may start a fresh... |

Very good point you make Sandy... If you have a high milage car, change the gearbox fluid & reset the adaptions! Then you will probably be asking too much of the electronics to learn... Basically, as the gearbox wears and the fluid wears the gearbox learns ever so slowly the differences... Changing the fluid is quite a big change for an adaptive gearbox on its own... Throw in an adaptions reset as well & I'm afraid its a recipe for disaster! |

Aha Craig that makes sense and is probably what happened to them. I know with my old gearbox they did a double flush and refill and it made a hell of a difference - didn't cure the thumping gear change problem but it did improve the overall performance I was quite surprised at the change and as you say both together for a leggy box might be too much |

Craig what would you consider high millage ? I have a zf 6 speed that I am considering having the fluid changed. Car has 90k on the clock and the box runs great I do some times get the rollout thud when creeping up to a junction or roundabout but to be honest I think my diving has adjusted as it doesn't happen much anymore.
