Earlier this week I had to assist one of my friends as her Freelander would not start.

It is a 1.8 Petrol Freelander 1 registered in 2000. Since rescuing her my friend has discovered if she leaves the Freelander open/unlocked after about 3-4 hours it will start.

Anyone come across this issue on a Freelander 1? I am going over on Sunday to check connections to starter, ignition switch, battery etc. But if anyone seen this before may save me some time.

NB when it doesn't start all ignition lights come on, alarm flashing light goes off, but nothing when you turn the key, no click from the starter/solenoid, not spinning of the engine 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks. maybe a daft question, but why does leaving it unlocked affect the camshaft sensor? 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Loose terminal on the starter motor is the most likely culprit

Bought a 1.8 in Edinburgh, started fine but had HG issues, so stopped every 20 miles to check water level.
The first twice we stopped, it started fine. Last time we stopped, it wouldn't restart, with no click at all for the starter motor. A few wiggles of the wire had it making a better contact, and worked fine after that

Fixed, spot on Mikey was a loose connection on the solenoid. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Seen plenty of them do that

Good its sorted another one I had on my p38 was the cable from the battery to the started had internal corrosion so giving it a wiggle and it started for a while replaced the cables never had it comer back might be worth a look
