Spotted that car parts 4 less have shell helix professional af 5w30 on offer at the moment. Not sure if its the correct one as it seems to be listed as a3/b3 but I bought what I think is the same from Ecp the other day and it was a1 and ford 913b compliant.

wonder if this would be any good for the td6 or indeed my 530 e61[dpf removed and remapped so doesnt need low sap oil any longer i wouldnt think..]? |

This is a Ford spec oil, you would need a BMW spec

Gents, reading this with some interest as the SC is due to be serviced next week. A. Presumably you can take your own oil to a main dealer? B. More importantly though, seems to be some confusing (to me anyway) data if anyone can please enlighten me. This Shell link shows the Helix HX7 to be 'semi synthetic'.
