As you know I've recently acquired a 2010 TDV8 which had some corrosion on the bottom lip of the upper tailgate.

I took it to my local LR main agent and their body shop man took photo's etc and sent it all off to LR for approval of a warranty claim. LR were excellent and agreed so I had the tailgate replaced.

Dropped car off at LR agent and they had the car for 6 days (which I thought was a bit excessive) and it was ready last Friday.

When I picked it up I had an inspection and found:

A thumbnail size "lump" on one side.
three pin holes in the paint.
Two what can only be described as "lips" at the bottom where it looks like paint or lacquer has run during the drying process.

I've since found out that LR sub this out to a local body shop who are "LR Approved"

I know these things happen when painting panels but who signed this off as suitable to return to a customer.

I now have to get the car back to them for them to fix these issues so will be without it again for another few days.

Not sure whether I should take this up with LR or just lump it but I'm not a happy bunny.

(and besides they offered me a Suzuki Swift as a loaner..!)

I should kick up a stink as insist that LR loan me a suitable, similar loan vehicle and I don't want to deal with the bodyshop. To me this a warranty claim on LR not some body shop.

Thoughts/comments..?

Hi - sorry to hear that you have had some issues - but looking on the bright side they have at least agreed to fix this so maybe have a moan at LR and I am sure this time they will get it right, the end result will be your RR looking fab. I had a similar issue with a Mercedes - started to rust on both rear arches and dealer had it in and re-sprayed them at their cost, I was never happy with the colour match and when the same arches started to rust again 18 months later they didn't want to know.

I'd definitely have a rant. They'll never learn otherwise and its a pain to keep taking and dropping off the car. I'd also watch the state of the lettering when you get it back/ check its straight if they've restuck the old badge. My Previous RR's!

I've had this before - many years ago when I was a young whippersnapper I had a 12 month old Vauxhall Cavalier (I know, classy), but had some paint issues on the rear hatch. Vauxhall main dealer took it in and three days later came back - with a ridge of paint along the back door where it had been masked and a paint run along the hatch.

Came back again a week later with a few more issues, despite the service manager informing me he had personally checked it this time - no, it was no better than before - a really shoddy job.

Ended up going back 4 times before it was ok - each time it came back with something different, a paint run here, a ridge there - turned out it was being outsourced the local car body repair - it was clear the job was being rushed and no time or care being taken on it.

At the end of the day it is the dealers issue to sort out, not yours with the bodyshop - you are well within your rights to tell the dealer to sort it out and provide a suitable replacement car. They are the ones who commissioned the work. Current Fleet:-

The main dealer we use (Stratstone) is covered by a regional LR Approved bodyshop that is a large facility where they bodywork repair all marques that the Strat group sell including Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Land Rover etc.

On a day to day basis, the main dealer doesn't use that facility and sub contracts the work to a local bodyshop.

Ours had work done last year and it went to the large facility. They didn't get things right first time and had the car for many weeks before finishing the job to an acceptable but not perfect standard. However, likewise, when their local sub contracted bodyshop did work the year before, they didn't get things right either.

It's perhaps a sign of the times. Most lemons are having so much squeezed out of them that professional pride is on a sliding scale!

I agree with the above. Don't accept something that will continue to annoy you every time you see it. Your issue is with the dealer. THEY can deal with the body shop (and maybe figure out what an acceptable body shop is).

Update - And I must say I am impressed so far.

I decided to make my views known on the issues and so emailed the dealer principle at the said main dealer this morning. I got a reply within 20 minutes from him to assure me he would look into it and come back to me.

This evening, a further response that went like this....

They are literally queuing up to buy LR's at all our local dealerships. IMHO I don't think they give a t*ss. Apart from my local at Chipperfield (Who are very nice) the service staff at most LR dealers need a reality check, they act like they own LR and your car.....
