Just back from a day inland to have a nice black truffle meal.
Meal was great but the satnav took us what I guess was the shortest route, narrow roads, had to pull over each time a car was coming our way, the roads were in such a bad shape the ride was quite bumpy (not helped by the 22 inch wheels I guess).
On our way back I chose the better route with wide and better surfaced roads so I drove a little bit faster and the car was in its element but the drive was spoilt by my passengers who said I was going too fast (even though I wasn't above the speed limit!) so I enjoyed the meal but didn't enjoy the drive sadly (which for me is at least as important as the food!).

Yes probably not a very interesting thread. Bottom line is if you do many badly surfaced roads (I don't) better not opt for 22 inch wheels... and leave your in-laws at home if you want to enjoy the drive!

Can't you get one of these for a 405?

indeed we do have crap roads compared to the nice smooth french and other euro roads, sorry..  ... - .- -.

Stan I think csk is in France, you surely don't do truffle meals in the UK inlands....
And tbh the roads here are really crap. Only the toll roads are well maintained. The rest is one pothole.

Think of it this way - how much more uncomfortable would it have been an a car without all that wheel travel and a bad ride?

@Stan: I was driving fast but not that fast that I would manage St Tropez-UK, lunch and back in a day! Not to mention I wouldn't have been eating truffles!

One of my many (still to be patented once I'm rich ) design ideas is a helmet for children that is sound proof. That means if the kid is inside it can scream its head of (pun intended) but outside you won't hear any of it. It does have all the electronics to keep a modern kid busy (screen, speakers, outside mic to tell them what to do and zapper if they misbehave (the last one will be optional I guess)).

That same helmet can of course also be manufactured for adult obnoxious persons (especially in-laws, who's helmets come with the zapper as standard and no visor). These helmets will be dishwasher proof as they may get a bit motion sick when driven around in the back of a car in spirited fashion on bumpy roads.

I know the place you mean, Bruno in Lorgues, very good but we were up in Aups for the truffle market and had lunch at Domaine de Majastre, had a fantastic meal, the guy who owns the place runs the market and everything that's on the plate is home grown: meat, vegetables and the truffles of course!

T'was indeed Chez Bruno, which we haven't been to in years. DdM sounds wonderful, we shall add it to the list.

In years gone by (probably 15 years...!), when the autoroute was a 200km/h cruise at the right time of day, the turn-off just past Le Luc down through La Garde-Freinet to the Golfe always felt like the start of the holiday and a wonderful road if sans-famille.

Do add it to your list but be warned it is not as posh as Bruno. Decor is a bit kitsch but food is great and fantastic value.
