Been lurking here a long time had a good read through pages and pages of posts.

Looking for opinions of anyone who's driven/owned both the L322 and new shape (L494) Range Rover Sport

What Im looking for in a car:-

To be able to waft along in comfort and luxury. Won't need to commute nor take short drives around town (will have 2 wheels for getting around Sydney). Previous cars, 2009 BMW M3 Coupe, 2000 X6, 2006 S Class, Renault Megane RS250.

Will use the car for trips to different cities every month to visit family when I'm home from work.

I find myself looking at the 2011/2012 TDV8's the most (only Aroind 10 for sale online in Aus right now) but also wondering if a new sport would also fit the bill

I understand this is a fullfat biased forum but still interested in hearing from Anyone who's had experience with both and could give them a quick summary. Will also ask on another forum

Wow. Those are pretty different. I would guess the purchase prices would be as well.

Given that, I think you need to drive them both and decide.

Prices aren't too Dis-similar

Slightly used RRS Id buy Is around $130-145k, L322 around $120k . L322 should hopefully
Depreciate less tho

I would expect the L494 (new Sport) to hold value better than an L322.

L322 will depreciate due to being the old shape.

I would expect the opposite from the first batch of L494's - there should be strong second hand demand for those.

I thought seeing as the L322's I'm looking at are selling for around 60% of their original
Price their first owners have already taken a big hit, and rather the opposite of I purchase a new or nearly new

The first few years (2 to 3) the depreciation is quite high percentage wise but honestly don't look at that.

Drive both of them for a bit and then decide which one is the one you prefer to spend your time in moving around town/country . MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I've driven both and owned a few in my time.

The L494 is lovely to drive, really nice, and very Sport-ish. Firm sporty seats, good handling and feels perky.

The L322 is a cruiser (unless you get a 5.0 Supercharged - they are a different beast )

Think about how much gear you'll need with you, the space in the boot, and how they drive.

Is the L405 not on the radar? Discovery 4 HSE

Thanks RRUK. I won't actually be hauling that much gear about. Car will mainly be for a my young family (1 and possibly one more on the way) and a 200 mile trip up the coast every now and again to see family.

Seeing as speed is not an option in Australia (60-65mph limits on the highway STRICTLY enforced), a cruiser sounds perfect. In fact I was banned for a month for apparent excessive speed for doing 70mph on a highway when I first moved over from the UK. First offence too, for doing 70??! Mind you the limit was 50mph on the highway

I'd love an L405 but one Id look at would cost me about double what a 2012 L322 would cost me
