They don't normally change the actual direction of the beam, they just mask off the portion that would normally dazzle drivers to your left. If you drive with it in the UK with the continental masks set it just wont illuminate the kerb side of the road very well. You'll still have adequate (not brilliant) lights and they wont dazzle anyone. So you can still drive around like it until you get them sorted. Unless of course they're stuck in UK mode and you're on the continent, then you can't drive at night, in tunnels or in the rain.
If you look on other general car forums you do read rubbish about left hand drive car head lights dipping straight down, they don't they dip to the right (just a mirror image of ours) The masks are just a way of facilitating being able to use the car one the wrong side of the road for visits.
