I have noticed that the rubber at the top of the front windscreen post seems to be loose and have a gap which will allow water down - is this right or should it be tight?

Mine is similar - although its elasticity(?) keeps it fairly tight against the seal that runs along the roof rail tracks.

A bit of Evostick perhaps to hold it down???

Black automotive silicone sealant should sort that. It'll hold it down and stop water getting down there at the same time.
