Fair price for a gearbox double flush service?

Found a local LR Indy who was factory trained and worked at local main dealer. He talks knowledgabley on the phone so I don't think he is a BS merchant.

Asked him speculatively what he'd charge to service my auto box (preventative maintenance) and with the double flush and filter change he said £525 all in.

What do you think, is that a fair price? Discovery 4 HSE

I've recently been quoted mid 300's inc the VAT. And about the same for a mega flush (without filter change).

He was quoting oil at £38 a litre.

Does sound high, may as well get main dealer to do it! Discovery 4 HSE

Oil from main dealer is £24+vat but I've seen it for £15 online, I bought all the oil myself and took mechanic 2 hours to do gearbox oil/filter and both diffs so I would say your price is very high

Ask him how much he'll do it for if you supply the oil. It might just be that his supplier (the place he has an account with), charges him a lot for the oil.

Another potential complication is that there seems to be the need for a LR special tool to access the filler/level plug on the 6 spd auto box... Discovery 4 HSE

Scotland

There is no special tools needed to change the oil in the 6 speed box Thumbs Up

EDIT: At least on the 3.6 TDV8 and 4.2/4.4 AJV8

Yes Mikey ,just looked at my mates today ,the filler plug on his 6 speed is almost the same as on my 5 speed just an Allen key required.
