I had a call from M&S Money yesterday asking me if I'd bought something from Littlewood Direct Online a few minutes earlier for £400! I told them I hadn't and luckily they'd already declined the sale anyway and once they'd confirmed this with me, they cancelled the account and are sending me a new card.

I have my card with me at all times and always check every receipt I have. 99.9% of the time, the receipt shows **** **** **** followed by the last 4 card digits. I then shred them at home. Very rare do I see all 16 digits displayed, although it still goes on.

I can only suspect that the card has been skimmed somewhere although I can't think where as it never leaves my sight. Failing that, it's been obtained online somewhere. How are they doing it though?

Have you used it to withdraw cash from the hole in the wall? as this seems to be a new favourite target for scammers (as I'm sure most are aware that the Bas##@s are sticking a new fascia with camera (for the PIN) and card reader built in).

And having seen the Real Hustle on BBC 3, they always skim the card right in front of the owner with readers hidden in aprons and shoes etc or even on the PIN machine!

You can try to pull the front off cashpoints (like I do) before using them and try and keep an eye on your card when you pay in restaurants, but you only reduce the chances of being scammed. And of course there are always the new scams that the banks and the public aren't aware of yet.

I hope you caught it in time. Sounds like you took all the resonable precautions and still got stung! Glad your bank is quite switched on, wouldn't have the same confidence in mine!

There was a big scam going on nr Edinburgh at Shell stations apparently, all the locals were up in arms cos firstly they'd employed soap dodgers not locals in the filling station, and then they were skimming everyones cards and filming PIN numbers above the till area.

No words can describe how I feel about people like this, they come to our country, claim all they can, make our children learn their daft religions, baulk at their kids learning ours, then f***ing scam us for our hard earned cash.

I'd shoot them, no qualms, or just send them the F back to wherever they came from. Low Life Scum. Discovery 4 HSE
