About 3 weeks ago the AB went into Taggarts to have a couple of niggles dealt with and for the front brake flexi recall to be carried out.

The first problem has been ongoing since the car was new, and every other time it has been in they've always sent it home saying they weren't able to replicate the fault. When on the motorway doing 70 - 75mph, if you opened the window and shut it, it didn't seal. Last time it was in for a service in April they decided to email Land Rover and ask for guidance as they couldn't find a fault. Last time it did it I video'd the noise on my phone so that they could see I wasn't making it up. 3 months passed and we didn't hear a thing from them so I phoned them and was told to book it in again. This time I involved Land Rover as it was getting tiresome going back and forth for the same thing. Finally, they changed the door seal and thankfully it appears to have cured the problem.

The second problem was when trying to start the car it was repeatedly clicking 3 or 4 times before it started. Again, this was reported at the service, but again, they were unable to replicate the fault. When I climbed in it to start it when leaving the dealer it clicked 3 times. I video'd this on my phone also as you could guarantee when it was cold that it wouldn't start. Anyway, when it went back in we got a phone call from Sharon on the service desk saying "We can't replicate the fault and there's no faults logged on the ECU so there's nothing wrong with it".

When explaining that I didn't believe the ECU would log a failed attempt to start as the engine didn't actually turn over she got quite defensive and border line rude telling me that I was wrong and implied that I didn't know what I was talking about. Apparently she'd asked the workshop manager who had confirmed she was right. Anyway, they eventually after having the car for 3 days managed to replicate the fault and replaced the starter motor.

When we went to collect the car I noticed that there was quite a noticeable stone chip on the leading edge of the back drivers door that wasn't there when it went in. It looked like they'd opened it and clipped it on the pillar of a ramp or something. As it's a dark coloured car and the chip was bright white it stood out like a sore thumb.

The service manager and workshop controller came out to look at the chip in the carpark before we left and were very apologetic and said they'd get it in and sorted. Brian the service manager asked if we could wait for just over a fortnight as he wanted to be there when it was done so that he could ensure it was right before we collected the car. Despite his request, he was nowhere to be seen when dropping the car off, and when collecting it today he walked straight passed us without even acknowledging us.

Between booking the car in for the remedial work originally and it going in there was a space of 2 weeks. We had previously spoken to them about changing the car for an L405 AB. We asked if they could organise an L405 demonstrator for us to have for a day when ours was in. When at the service desk they handed us the keys to a Discovery Sport stating that the Range Rover was out and no others were available, despite there being 5 sales cars right beside the front door.

By the time we collected the RR it had been in the dealer for 4 days and nobody could tell us how to upgrade the sat nav. Sharon was adamant that we had to go to Navteq to buy the maps despite Navteq not actually existing any more. Here who now do the system clearly state on the website "contact your dealer". Even with this printed and on the table in front of her she was still saying that Taggarts can't help but she'd look into it and call us back. She never did.

Anyway, the car went in on Monday this week to have the chip sorted out. Again, when booking it with the service manager we requested an L405 demo, this time we were given an Evoque with 500 miles on it, we climbed into it to see the Diesel light on and a range of 35 miles on it.

We were told that the smart repair guy would just touch in the chip on our car and that would be the end of it. We asked them again, for a 4th time to look into updating the sat nav. Anyway, 48 hours passed and we got a phone call to say the car was ready. When asking about the sat nav, again, nobody knew what was going on. Apparently they've never updated the sat nav on a 12MY car before and they're different from all the others. They've now ordered a USB stick which can take 14 days to arrive so they need the car again.

When we went to get the car today we were told that they ended up painting the entire door. When we got there it was parked in the shade, a quick look at it and the colour match looked great. When we got it home and parked it in the sun my heart sank... This car has been detailed every 12 months and there isn't a swirl visible on any of it. The paint was perfect. Despite there being a "Do No Wash" sign in the car they've washed it with a brush or something as most panels now have swirls on them, however, the back door that was painted looks like it's been washed with a brillo pad, the leading edge of the drivers door and of the rear quarter have been caught by the machine polisher and the door is just covered in buffer trails. As well as that there are scratches on the door that you can click your finger nail in!!

Here's a few not great pictures of the paintwork. When I rang them and complained they said "It's the same guy we use to prep sales cars, he's usually very good". This car is now in worse condition then it was in when we dropped it off. I've told them that it's to be resolved by the detailer that we use regularly at their expense. Yet again, we need to wait for a phone call from the service manager.

Great! Mine went in to them for the brake flex recall. They collected it on Monday and were due to bring it back today. They did try calling today but I had been called out.
I returned their call when I got back and asked what they'd done to it. I was told they'd changed the flexi hoses but when they went to bleed them they found the n/s front calliper bleed nipple seized. So they'd just fitted a new calliper foc.
They're returning it tomorrow so I'll have a good look at it. So far I'm happy with them. Lyn the service lady has been brilliant but I'm dealing with the south side branch rather than Maryhill road.
I know how mint your blue one is (was?) so my commiserations. I have been to Maryhill Road but only dealt or more accurately tried to deal with them on car sales. Still awaiting their return call three years later.
Mind you took my good lady's merc SL into the local stealer about three weeks ago for a service a fortnight after we got it. I also told them we were looking for a deal on three new cars for a business and they promised to call me shortly. Well shortly must be more than 3 weeks in merc speak coz I've heard nothing. The next day we took the SL on an extended test drive of 965 miles and on day two the central locking and convertible roof wouldn't work. When I got back I found the second battery in the boot flat and the terminals corroded. Some service! I'd even told them they should feel honoured as it was the first time in 19 years I was letting a garage service one of my cars and only because I thought it might be worth keeping the service history complete from day one with MB main dealers. Ha! It'll be another 19 years before I make that mistake again. Rehab is for quitters!!!

Don’t mean to cause trouble but changing only one calliper is not really the done thing sir!

Like changing one spring or one shocker! I certainly would NOT accept it!

Difficult to justify changing both when the reason given was a seized bleed nipple. However be certain I'll be going over it with a tooth comb because I changed the brake fluid not that long ago and it wasn't seized then. Shockers, springs and brake pads I agree with. This might just be justifiable. Rehab is for quitters!!!

That is truly disgusting how they've treated your car.

There seems to be quite a pattern emerging here on the forum that a lot of issues seems to be down to the poor service/incompetence of the dealers.
I have had damage done to my L322 being cracked speaker trim and damaged door handle. The dealers inability to diagnose faults is shocking. The have a peek or a quick look, no fault noticed, customer is an idiot.

Overall our impression of LR after several LR cars is rapidly diminishing and this will probably be our last. Having had BMWs, Mercs, Audis etc the other prestigious brands have way better dealer service and customer support.
BMW even dictate to their garages the policy on cars and servicing costs. When we had our 3 series and 7 series serviced we shopped round and service price was the same at several dealers. When I asked about the cost I was told the prices are set by BMW so there is no dealers trying to rip you off.

From a LR customer point of view it seems the dealers are the ones telling LR what to do. Approved car checks amongst other things seem to be whatever the dealer wants to do. It seems LR ask them to follow rules but none of the dealers really bother as it isn't policed and as LR are too scared to stop supplying new cars to the dealer that the dealer almost has LR to ransom.

I would be absolutely horrified with the finish and the first call would be to the dealer principle. Regards

I can't speak highly enough of Lyn in service and Scott in parts whom I use regularly. They are both people I would employ without a seconds thought. So in conclusion, go to the Darnley branch.
Btw, I did ask about not fitting new calliper in pairs and as I predicted they said they wouldn't for a seized bleed nipple which I fully agree with but thanks for the comment. Rehab is for quitters!!!

That is such a tail of woe and yet such a difference between branches.

Its definitely something I would push all the way particularly when someone is being borderline rude. Its clearly a management issue and LR need to SORT THEM OUT!

The branch simply doesn't appear to care.

I have used the South side taggarts (formerly known as Shields) for my RR's for the past 3 years and have never had a bad experience with them, unlike the the Maryhill road taggarts who I will never use again  2014 SDV8 Autobiography

I took mine into Taggarts, Maryhill Rd for the brake hose recall, was promised wash and Hoover plus safety check. Hoses changed, safety check done was informed that my oil light was flashing and telling them that oil pressure was low do not drive car. They handed me the car back no wash no Hoover told me about the oil suggested I have it looked at and walked away.
I had the ff recovered to my local garage who had serviced it the day before, they were horrified to find that the oil they had ordered for my ff was in fact the wrong oil in the right container, fortunately they had not used the oil in any other car. Complete flush including new filter and the proper oil fitted with no apparent damage I had only done 12 miles. My local garage is awaiting information as to what oil was actually supplied and is in the process of making a claim for compensation.
My car is running wel with no apparent problems I am actually on holiday in southern Germany and done about 1500 miles.

Watty, how did they tell it was the wrong oil in the right container? Colour, viscosity?
In fairness to Taggarts, I think they did the right thing. Clearly you weren't instructing them to investigate a fault which had nothing to do with them. To run the engine would have left them exposed to claims of damage. Maybe if you took it and asked them to wash it and they refused you might have a gripe but otherwise what am I missing? Rehab is for quitters!!!

Taggarts handed me the car back and told me off the oil lift and the warning, they just told me to have it looked at, no mention of can we help, just there are the keys away you go. I checked the oil and it was showing half way up the dipstick, now I know for a fact the oil level was correct the previous evening when I picked the car up after servicing. I had the car recovered to my local garage where they checked the oil and noticed that was thin like water and very runny. They checked the barrel the oil came from and noticed it was a slightly different colour tha normal and just did not feel as it should. And where did the oil go to, there was no leakage.
I just felt that Taggarts were not all that interested in helping me, as for the wash and Hoover it was promised and not done

Thinking back a few months, Taggarts also had our Freelander in as we could hear a drumming noise coming from the rear. Apparently they had it on the ramp with a stethoscope on the hubs and diff and couldn't find anything. They said it could be tyres but to rule that out we'd need to buy new tyres or pay labour costs for them to swap them front to back despite it being under warranty.

We took the car away and slowly but surely the noise got worse. It was sent back in and they diagnosed a rear wheel bearing and changed it. The noise went away.

Strange that they couldn't hear the noise or diagnose it the first time around when we could quite clearly hear it in the car.

Despite there also being a "Do Not Wash" sign on the car they've also washed it and swirls are slightly visible on every panel.
