Either I'm the tool or I have the wrong tool.

Bought a new steering wheel which came with the removal tool. I think I've located the spring clips but my tool seems too short. When I push on the spring clips the handle is right up against the steering wheel and while the clip moves in a little I just can't seem to unclip the airbag.

Ive replaced plenty of steering wheels before on other cars and am preferring the torx set up to these spring clips all day long.

The tool I have is 63mm long.

Should be long enough. Here is a vid if it helps

I don't see how a tool only 63mm long could ever be considered long enough ...
Or am I missing something?  It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

if it is too short, just go to B&Q, buy a cheap screw driver and saw the end off.

Managed to remove it in the end. Another 10mm on the tool wouldn't have hurt but I was able to remove with the tool on one side and then used a t15 on the other side which made it easier.

Now just got to paint the spokes and put it all back together again.

Ask any man if he'd like an extra 10mm, of tool, and he'd say.....'oh yeah, '


Yes it's a funny job to remove that airbag, as you don't know what you are really trying to locate, then it sort of just releases.
There are not many super thin screwdrivers with the long length needed to do the job, just lying around the toolbox.

Surprised it too so long for the jokes to appear.

Primed last night and painted and lacquered today.

Very pleased with the way the spokes turned out for about £13 of rattle cans.

New wheel feels great and well worth the £100.

After the new brake discs and pads last Friday the beast has had a new lease of life.

The later years came with chrome spokes as std.

Had seen others who had painted theirs so thought I'd give a go before I spent the £80 on the new ones.

earlier ones had that sort of matt rubberised coating on them (like the window switch pods).

Later ones had the matt chrome which apparently wears a lot better.

I've got replacing mine with the chrome ones on my to do list. My leather steering wheel is actually still sound though.
