Loss of power - no acceleration

Hi guys, I need a bit of help.

A couple of days ago I was driving my 2008 Range Rover 3.6 TDV8,pushing it a little but nothing stupid, when after about 3-4 hours, I had a loss of power and something like "engine failure" flashing up on the dash, and my wife said something about the all terrain flashed up on centre display. The car still ran at around 40/50 mph, but no acceleration and could not make it up a hill.

I am in Spain so had to get international recovery to pick car up and take it to be looked at/fixed. The car is looked after with everything present and correct. I contacte my local specialist in the uk and he said that probably is a split in the hose, but I could not see a split or see that they were loose. If it helps it has 120k miles, but looked after.

It is going to be bad enough speaking to a Spanish mechanic, so any ideas or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks Craig Range Rover Vogue 3.6 TDV8 - 2008 - Cairns Blue

There's a guide here

You really need to take them off to inspect them properly.

If it's the hoses, then you should be able to re-start & run moderately without any issues - if you boot it, you should see black smoke from the exhausts & may get a recused performance message & limp mode - but when you restart the car, all should be back to normal.

I got back from southern France OK with some duct tape and not accelerating too hard

If it's not that, then maybe EGR valves

Thanks Stan and Alistair,

That's great, it will give me an idea of potential problems when speaking with mechanic. I would take another look if he car wasn't 400 miles away in a Land Rover dealership!
