Advice Please.. What replaces my 07 L322

Good evening everyone..

I'm starting the thought process of deciding the replacement for my treasured L322 (07 MY). This will be a toy - not a necessity, and so there's plenty of time to find the right thing. Should it be another L322 (younger) or a Discovery? Perhaps I know the answer to that deep down!

Are there advantages over my 07MY l322 TDV8 from other later versions of the same?

I adore my current L322 and have had everything replaced or maintained that was ever deemed preventative or necessary. So... Ive an itch to scratch.. what shall it be?

It really depends on what sort play you want to do with the new toy. If it is for high-days and holidays only, have you considered a pristine condition Classic or would you prefer something more modern?

I think something more modern.. Im quite happy to be on the spanners, but a classic would perhaps be something Id be frightened to press into service if required. Yes.. I'm thinking more modern...

Did you see giantlandyman's new car ??
Smile

Although I like the exterior of the 07 better , there are certain touches to the interior that I would welcome . Smile
The running gear too .

I'm currently going through the slow process of doing a running restoration on our 07 sc , that no doubt could have bought me a later one by the time I've added up the bills ....

But My girlfriend Debbie loves it .
In fact she picked the spec .
All I had to do was find one that matched , buy it and handover the keys Laughing

Kind of tempting to say everything.....

I loved my L322, but as soon as I got into the L405 I was sold.

I thought the 3.6 TDV8 was good - and mine had a BAS remap - but the 4.4 SDV8 is better and the 8 speed box is sublime.

It's quicker, smoother, stops better and goes round corners without rolling. It's lighter and more fuel efficient - so I now easily get 550 miles to a tank.

Inside is very familiar, but refreshed - better sat nav, iPod integration etc - still not where it should be vs other manufacturers, but notably better. My wife is a sunroof fan and she loves the panoramic roof.

There is only 1 niggle that I have - the keys are not programmed to the seat memory - so I have to move the seat if my wife has been driving - not a great hardship as it's on the door arm rest & can be moved without the ignition on - but feels like a big step backwards.

Its hard to justify the cost - but I do a reasonable mileage, including 5 return trips to the south of France every year - so for me, it's worth it Thumbs Up

Don't forget the L322 4.4TDV8 has a cracking 8 speed auto box too.

I was very fond of our 2007 4.2SC. Very pleased with our 4.4TDV8 though and the subtle revisions that came with this later model. For example, this one doesn't leak Laughing

The L405 is a lovely car and it's encouraging to hear how advanced they are over to the L322 (so it should be).

If you're lucky enough to have an 07 anyway, you would probably enjoy moving to a 2010>2012 MY L322 (provided you don't first drive the L405 by a number of accounts).

Thumbs Up

Id Move up to 1 of the last 4.4tdv8 or 5.0 sc and keep the 20+k in the bank .
Then in a few years move up to a l405 when the prices drop. 2007 tdv8 se ,stornaway grey

If it will be a toy, why not go outside the realms of sensibility ?? I sold my '07 earlier this year and got a 5.0 Jag XK.. Glorious, wonderful car, couldn't recommend it enough.. Although I do miss my RR..

Personally i'd go for a 2011 5.0 SC Autobiography. All the fun you'll ever need, refined, as quick as a hookers chip and pin machine, and still able to be pressed into service if required. And if you do have to do any rough stuff, it won't feel as daunting a taking a £90k plus L405.
And you'll still have a wad left over in the bank for a decent SL 55AMG.... Thumbs Up

i'll be swopping my '07 SC for a 5.0 L322 as soon as it's back from Spannerland ! Tony
