Hello all,

Is it possible to get an approximate location of a mobile phone just by the number?

Reason being that I have had an anonymous text from what I guess is an ex-disgruntled employee which is to put it blunt quite a scary thing to read! I would like to see which area of the U.K. It is from so I can work out who it is (I don't have many enemies but my mind is working overtime as to whether certain people may have other agendas!) before I decide what to do next.

I don't want to respond or try ringing the number yet in case it is a serious text !

So is it possible to find the approximate location from just the mobile number - don't need a street etc perhaps just a town or even county where it is located or even bought? CURRENT : FFRR 2012 4.4 TDV8

Doubt that's something the public can do...

You could buy a PAYG SIM & try calling it using that and see who answers.

Otherwise - if it's nasty, then take it to the Police.

The police can, track it to a cell tower.

If the text is malicious then as Alistair said you should take it to the police.

It should fall under the Malicious communications act, which says it is illegal to send or deliver letters or other articles for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety. texts are included in this. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Google the number, if he's ever sold anything with that number in the advert it will come up, it's amasing how much info is out there, google your own number and see....  Pete

I had a stalker for 3 years, it took 18 months of continuous threats buy text and calls throughout the day and night and reporting to the police for them to finally do anything.

I changed my number twice but to no avail.
I took printouts of all the text messages to them ,
when they did check the number it was a pre pay, thus the only way they could find out where it was from. was to check where it had been topped up and hope for cctv,
their response was it would cost too much and my life had not been put in danger ,at which point I offered to pay just so I could find out the area and take it from there myself,
all they did was send a text message asking them to stop (which they didn't)

im just waiting patiently for a name to be mentioned to me because we all know people like that cant help but brag ,then ill have my funtime

people like that deserve what awaits them ,
