I got an invitation from Taggarts to an event at Cameron House to see the new Evoque Convertible next weekend. Trying to decide if it's worth a look at or not.

To satisfy my curiosity, I used the website to build a Lux coupe and added almost every extra. Total price…. £85,000. I realise most won't go to that extreme but it is an eye opener. They look good but I question if they really on a par with a FFRR, £ for £? TBF, I'm probably not the target market.

That is building It to the extreme, I would sincerely doubt anyone would build one out to that, more likely to opt for a sport at that level....

I had a play with the convertible and got it to just under £60k. IMHO they are not worth that sort of money, I can't see the value, but I do think the disco sport is worse for that. It is definitely a lower eschelon car than the ewok but it can still be specced to the best part of 55k and is not on a par with the ewok internally, would rather spec a disco or ssrr in that sort of price point. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The world is moving fast - the people that buy them will have a whole different set of values - it's not intended to appeal the the FFRR crowd - JLR are doing an excellent job - IMHO - of segmenting the market and giving each segment something that appeals to them

No doubt everyone that buys one doesn't 'get' the FFRR - probably thinks its a old mans barge that s far too big - each to their own

Don't get me wrong I like the ewok, it's nicely finished, comfy, etc, it's just over priced imho. But what do I know JLr are selling boat loads of them so I must be wrong..... Or just think I would rather have a new/used 494 or 405 for the same money.....which seems better value to me. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Exactly the point - JLR don't want to appeal to you - or most people on here - the last thing they want is confusion.

They will have divided the market and explicitly targeted cars at different demographics.

I would guess that a reasonable proportion of Evoque owners won't like it or want one.

The target market isn't really people who would have bought an Evoque anyway - maybe some of them - but also a lot of BMW 3 series convertible drivers etc.

It's supposed to be king of the 4 seater convertibles - so unless you're in the market, then it's not really aimed at you

Most of us like the big ole barge of a L322 (L405 if your posher) so this is not a car for 'us' but it's a LR lifestyle product and that, by default, means it'll be a huge seller. Have to say, I have grown to like the evoque and disco sport. I was never a fan of the square D3 when it arrived on the scene but had wonderful service out of mine... Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
