What about the engine that the Welderup Guys put into their diesel rod? Old one was apparently 1200bhp and 1800ft/lbs. Saw one last night where they rebuilt it but chucked in a new engine and included 5 tanks of NOS with it...

Should get you started at least. Something like a 6l cummins engine. Ed

Anyway I've sorted out the problem, sort of, I err, might have gone and got another set of wheels........

A Mercedes ML270 CDI MANUAL didn't know that they existed...... bit like rocking horse pooh.... but I found one.. and got it

It's rather a lot of peddles to choose from.... 4 A,B,C,H as if live wasn't confusing enough they have given it a foot operated hand brake, and 6 forward gears, driven it about 150 miles on less than a quarter of a tank

It's rated at 35.3 MPG.... but I reckon that it's been chipped and does way more than that.... and it really puts the ffrr to shame when it comes to delivering the power.... I'm not used to accelerating at that speed
It all started out fine and then it rained.... then the dash lit up with ABS faults, stopped at my parents for a few hours and all the lights went out... went to drive home had to go through a big puddle and all the lights came back on So I'm happy to report that it's every bit as reliable as a Range Rover

Reckon that I've a dodgy ABS sensor or a rotten connection... I find the blighter and sort it...We Have Ways Of Sorting It Out And when I finally worked how to make the cruise control work it was great.... and after the puddle nothing Think that a WD40 bath might be in order  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Are you sure that's a Volvo Penta engine?, only I didn't know that they did petrol engines, thought that they were only diesel.... in which case why has that diesel engine got a distributer and HT leads  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

4 foot peddles is easy! My daily hack is the same peddle wise.

As above a manual merc is rare for a reason.....

Being the 2.7 if the injectors haven't been done budget for them but in the meantime check the injector clamp bolts are torqued up.

Intercooler pipe splits aren't uncommon either and rust.... I'll say no more on the last one! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Sounds a bit like my TDV8 albeit I don't have the ABS sensors but have been going through tyres ridiculously quickly. Ed

I have 4 pedals in my manual '71 Mustang.

The parking brake is bloomin' high and calls for some cramp-inducing leg movements to operate. However, if you're quick from the foot brake to the accelerator then it's usually not a problem, but I imagine with 4 porta-potties behind you, you'll need to master the dexterity these setups often require.

Anyway, I didn't realise the 2.7CDi was non-ECU...  Si. <This is my name.

Yes it does have an ECU...... and my next door neighbour is a mechanic for the Royal Mail.... he has a lot of experience with the Sprinter... which is the same engine

I still reckon that a non ECU Classic is on the cards at some point.... saw a couple of youtubes of Defenders that had been converted.... I really want to do this even if it's just for the sound that they make  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I agree, the big donked diesels in a Defender do sound incredibly good.

My 300Tdi has an open air filter due to the air intake demands of the VNT setup she has and the induction noise on that, plus a custom exhaust, is considerably meatier than stock. You can hear the turbo sucking huge gobs of air in. Rather wonderful. Si. <This is my name.

Update... broken the ffrr , broken the Merc

Started to dream of a simpler car.... a manual ffrr with springs and more power....

and then a eureka moment..... what if I get hold of a whole Jaguar S type manual..... TDV6.. slightly more power than a Disco, around 206 bhp mate the engine with the 6 speed out of a Disco and stuff it in a Classic That would be nice.... no BCM, no EAS, no Automatic to eat it's self....

Sort of thought that if I got the whole car, then I could strip the engine and the whole loom plus ECU's and then start to remove unnecessary items, rather that go down the buy an engine and after market ecu, which are stupidly priced.... can get a complete car for 2K.... a separate engine and ecu would be nearer to 6K.... so I reckon there's some mileage in that idea.....

BUT I have just had a realisation that there could be a slight hiccup with that plan.... If I'm not mistaken.... the transfer box front output is on the other side to the Classic, which would mean that the diff is on the wrong side of the engine

I suppose that it would be possible to flip the axle case over, just can't remember if the swivel joins are bolt on  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

My godmother's husband has one (although it might be petrol) but I think it's a 2.7TDV6 and it's got the nickname 'garden ornament' because it's moved so little in the last few years... Ed

Why not just buy something that was better designed for your needs... how about this with some decent tyres on it...???
