Maybe change the torque converter if it's high mileage and hasn't been done. On the TD6 they go without warning and take the box along with them.

Hi stacker, when your cruising at say 60mph, is the rev counter reading about 2,000 rpm, if it is then your in tc lockup, any higher say 2500 -3000rpm, the tc is not locked up. As an observation mine doesn't particularly roar, but is chipped, which I believe makes the gear changes better.
