Many years ago we were on a distillery tour (Dalwhinnie if my memory serves me) and the tour guide was telling us about the "3 drops" malarkey. We all booo-hissed but the advice was that it helped to "explore the flavoured" without affecting them |

^ I've been to many a Whisky Society tasting event and suffered the pompous talk about a splash or three drops to kill the burn of the alcohol and bring out the inherent flavours....call me a philistine makes very fine whisky taste like watered down whisky me.
