I have a 02 L322 range pig and have just got a trans fail safe prog message and also trans overheat message. Driving symptoms are when you go from P to D there is a violent jets and then there is drive but the trans prog failsafe message comes on. The car still drives but with limited power. I had the gearbox flushed by quattro care 12 weeks ago. My mechanic , who is a Land Rover specialist said the gearbox oil was black and didn't smell right. He changed oil and filter but problem is still there. He has suggested taking it to a gearbox specialist Any recommendations. I live in Wakefield West Yorkshire.

Blaming the FF and calling it a pig for someone's lack of servicing is a bit harsh...

You should also have the main engine radiator, the gearbox oil cooler and it's supply lines checked for blockages as this can ruin a box in short order, lots of info if you use the search facility... You will need a new Torque convertor as well

There are an awful lot of dodgy gearbox "specialists" out there, if I were you I'd get a box from rrphil on here, he is a site sponsor and just rebuilds the 5HP24 box, he doesn't fit them but your independent should be able to do that no bother...  Pete
