What a Bargain

Well chaps, for the first time in a long while I am planning to keep the FF, if you knew how often i flipped cars after getting bored then you will understand the relevance.

Anyway I digress, as the car is no longer in full time use, the idea is slowly to build it into a sort of comfy overland vehicle.

First things first, I want to convert to LPG to bring the fuel cost down somewhat, and this weekend i pretty much stole a complete BRC kit with manifold and donut tank associated wiring and plumbing for a paltry £120 on the bay of thieves.

I am going to get a tinley tech kit for re-positioning the compressor, and am considering doing the whole conversion myself, but any offers of help or install for a good price are welcome Smile

My only concern is getting it certificated!!

Also I will be going for the hidden filler idea i have seen on a few conversions.

Car is a 2003 4.4V8 with 125k on the clock, I need to change the lambda sensors as well as two are throwing codes. 2003 V8 Vogue in Silver

No, it's just a con set up by the LPGA who are an unregulated body, not even insurance companies bother to ask for it these days....

There are no restrictions on who can work on LPG on vehicles either... old wives tale that you have to be Corgi or Acops registered.... Pete

I've had 3 LPG vehicles over the years which have been insured with various companies, the only one to ever ask for a certificate were NFU Current - RRV Autobiography 4.4V8 2005

Modifications - 20" Westminster Alloys with Grabber AT's. BRC LPG Conversion.

Previous- RRC 3.9V8/91. RRC 4.2V8/94 LSE Softdash. RRC 2.5tdi/94. RRC 2.5tdi/91. RR p38 2.5DHSE/01, Disco2 2.5td5/03, Disco4 2.7tdv6/10 ..... all gone.

Amazing, now I understand why the eurotunnel refuses lpg cars. In Holland and in France you need to get a certificat and that is only given after a very thorough check up of the installation by a certified lpg station. Went through it with the RR last year, to get the French reg. It took nearly 3 hours. Every part is checked if it has the certified partnumber etc. Driving on lpg without changing the carte grise (V5) to a lpg V5 can lead to confiscation of the car.

LPG burns 9 degrees hotter than petrol but seeing as they both burn at around 1000 degrees it doesn't make much difference.... Thumbs Up

However, you do not want Platinum or Iridium plugs as they don't work well with LPG, if you do change them just use bog standard NGK plugs, nothing fancy...

Any more old wives tales you've heard of.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

You DO NOT need a valve lube for your engine no matter what you read... fitting one will cause more harm than good... Pete

Yes do duck quacks echo? Very Happy

What pipe do you use to run from the tank to the front end (guessing cu toff solenoid is first in the line)

And the pipe from the filler to the tank has to be sleeved and vented externally, correct? 2003 V8 Vogue in Silver

Duck quacks do echo just like any other sound, especially if they are LPG ducks and not diesel ducks... Thumbs Up

Use the latest plastic pipe for gas front to rear, much easier to thread through the FF underside to keep it at least 200mm from exhaust, should be clipped to car every 300mm, stronger than cu and doesn't kink or work harden when bending, also more abrasion resistant..

The filler itself has to be sealed from the inside of the car with a rubber boot inside that seals it, filler pipe (again use the small bore plastic pipe instead of the old large awkward rubber pipe) is sealed to the gas tank box, the box is then vented to the outside through a hole in the floor of the boot...

See this thread I did some years ago of the Lexus I had then, doesn't go into too much detail but it may help...

This is the pipe you need, must use 8mm for fatty...

http://tinleytech.co.uk/shop/lpg-parts/far...ize-x-1-m/

If you ring Tinley Tech and tell them what you are doing they will send all the necessary parts as you need all sorts of little adapters and the odd extra olive etc....

They are very helpful, you won't feel like your asking stupid questions... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

it might be lpg, but it might be just aerosol gas... but the bloke wont be able to hear much now.

use some soap suds to test your connections, and when first filling your tank, just connect it, and put in £1, and stop then leave the station, and check for leaks.
then return.
I know it sounds dangerous, but its not difficult to do a good job. if you need some sealant, you buy some special red 'paint' type stuff, that smells of red hermatite. its lpg safe. I have a tin in the garage somewhere if you are stuck.

good ebay buy on that kit! pre-programmed. nice!
