Noticed this under passenger footwell..my brother vogues a year older than my 04 plate doesn't have one...probably something insignificant added after production tbh but worth a wee check..

Looks like a speaker for an aftermarket phone kit. Mine had a Nokia hands free kit fitted with mic, external speaker and some other gubbins. I just ripped them out as I don't have a Nokia phone and I don't like the idea of an external kit drawing power.....

Good Lord, not seen one of those in years. UKM is spot on, it's a Nokia speaker for the hands free kit that went with the infamous 6310.

i had one in my SC ..mine turned out to be a trafficmaster system, you might have a button/switch on the right hand side footwell as well. ... - .- -.

Just had a wee nosy...found a Sony ericson controller wired up and now concealed behind the drivers side plastics that cover the sides of the console....now I have a job finding out where there routed to and get shot of the lot... Laughing

Ah - I also have a button switch in the the drivers footwell in mine. I wondered what this was for?? I have an old laser speed gun detector in the windscreen and laser 'thing' mounted on the front so thought it powered this but maybe not?? I also have what looks like a factory install phone clip on the dash in front of the clocks.
