Coolant?

Hi Guys
I've been loosing a bit of coolant for a while and dreading it could be HGF but after dropping my sidelight retaining nut in the cold, discovered a few drips of coolant from front left. I'm assuming it's the rad. Im guessing this is an easy fix? Also do we have a special coolant in our beasts? Where is the best place for a new rad and coolant?
Thanks
Rob

Rads can be had from £140+Vat http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listi...ml?limit=0

It's not the most difficult job to do, although you'd be wise to have a copy of the workshop manual to hand.

If you have standard green/blue coolant then you're generally safe to use most off the shelf coolants. If you have red/pink/orange you need to be carefull because you cant mix and match without hardcore flushing.

I have the pink/orange coolant. What's the difference in color? Can the pink stuff come in blue/green or is it a standard system all manufacturers use?

That's the longlife "Organic" coolant. If you mix it with any other type it forms a thick sludge... Personally I dislike it because you cant buy it everywhere and if you need a top up in a service station you will more than likely only find blue. It's also fairly expensive in comparison to plain.

That being said its service interval is meant to be longer - although if you have corrosion already causing a leak then perhaps that's not so true.

Maybe someone with more authority on the subject will post...

Glad I made you cry! Seems if you mix the pink with the blue you end up in the brown! Lol

I bought the Halfords Advanced coolant as a top up earlier this year with no problem.

As long as you mix that with existing red coolant then you will be fine. If you have mixed it with blue you will have a problem, you just haven't noticed yet.

It's one of the causes of the blocked lower pipes in the rad which causes trans overheats.
