German magazine AutoBild Allrad discusses future Land Rover 4x4s!


The most recent issue of the German magazine AutoBild Allrad has some interesting news regarding the next generation Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. We have enthusiasts over at RRSPORT.co.uk bulletin boards to thank for this information, which they've scanned and translated from AutoBild. According to RRSPORT bulletin board members who translated the AutoBild report, future Range Rover and Range Rover Sport 4x4s could use a new "Premium Lightweight Architecture" (this has been discussed in previous reports), which should lower vehicle weight by about "300kg". This would result in more economical fuel consumption and deliver better handling with quicker acceleration. A hybrid engine is also being considered for the full-size Range Rover and Range Rover Sport based on technology that was demonstrated in the awesome Land-e concept shown at the 2006 Geneva Motorshow. Earlier reports from Autocar Magazine also suggest Land Rover might unveil a more advanced Land-e concept later this year.

RRSport bulletin board members also say the AutoBild article discusses a completely new Land Rover crossover vehicle positioned between Freelander and Discovery. This is interesting news because it's our understanding that early discussions for the Range Rover Sport resulted in two different proposals, a very sporty Land Rover crossover 4x4 with a sloping rear and a Sportier Range Rover. The Range Rover Sport design was chosen and has been a huge success for Land Rover. An additional Land Rover performance crossover could be just as successful for the company. Interesting news to think about.
