United Kingdom 2014 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV6 Santorini Black
Warranty Extension

Good afternoon all,

I've a 64 plate Vogue SE that runs out of warranty in September. What's the consensus on paying for an extension? My local dealer suggested I'd have to pay £200 for an inspection prior to ponying up for that actual warranty!

I suppose the alternative is to buy a new one!

Many thanks

P

I always extend, i think if you extend whilst in warranty you don't normally have to have an inspection as long as its a full LR warranty. I have always taken them and they are worth there weight in gold. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Probably a good idea what with the expense of fixing something should it go bang.

I too was under the impression that if I renewed whilst under the current LR warranty then it wouldn't need an inspection. I'll ring around some other dealers and see what's what.

I'm not sure there is a right or wrong answer, it is a question how much you are prepared to pay for greater peace of mind.

When I was offered LR warranty extensions (admittedly on 322s) before the expiry of the three-year warranty from new there was no suggestion of an inspection and associated fee.

If you are thinking of taking the extension, make a point of checking the terms carefully, on one of the LR warranties I was offered there was a limit of £3,500 per claim. That struck me as far too low, the main point of the warranty for me being to guard against a catastrophic event such as an engine failure. In this context I note that you have a TDV6 and that engine has a history of seizures.

When I was offered this on my current car (cost about £1200) I declined, as I was so disgusted at LR's refusal to honour its 3-year paintwork warranty on my rusty wheel arches, citing "external influence, weather conditions" (this in the context of a car supplied in Scotland, not e.g. an import from Western Australia). In the year from age 3 to 4 years there was nothing except routine servicing and maintenance, so no regrets, though there are now some issues (year 4 to 5) which might have been covered, and which might cost as much as the two years' premiums. So as matters stand I am content to have no warranty, though I have to take the risk of catastrophic failure, e.g. a turbo disintegrating and causing major engine damage.

Going by some stories on here cheaper non-LR warranties can be a false economy, there was one story of turbo failure being rejected for a claim as "wear and tear". Only Range Rovers since 1988

Buy a good used one and get the two year LR warranty as standard. There are some nice SE's around 15-18 month old for not much more than £60K and you'll get a big chunk back on yours.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll take a good look at the small print and see what is covered.

I had thought about trading for nearly new but I want the upgraded satnav etc, the present one is awful!

Mine will have done 45k by late summer so I'd not expect a bid of more than circa 45k. I'll need to find a least 30k to change into one with the upgraded satnav. The warranty seems like less of a hit!
