Hi to one and all,am about to tackle fitting new transmission oil cooler on my 2002 RR Vogue. Does anyone have experience of doing this job? Manual States that Power Steering pump and Alternater need removing for access,but I was hoping once under tray was removed cooler could be removed from underneath. Is this wishful thinking? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Ignore the manual... it's written for people without imagination!!! Yes it can be got at from underneath once the tray has gone, I can't remember the details as it was a few years ago... but the fact that I don't remember means that there wasn't any issues.. And I have never removed the alternator or power steering pump on a TD6 L322!! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Well at long last have swopped td6 transmission oil cooler (thanks miggit) for a new unit ( Island4x4). This operation cured my Year long problem of td6 over cooling. Sod's law - changed main thermostat,did away with EGR gubbins - all to no avail!

So, do you have to change the complete cooler when it over cools, or is there a replaceable stat in it?

The transmission oil cooler has a built in - non replaceable - thermostat. Crazy I know as on close examination it certainly looks like it could be replaced! The OEM unit I purchased from island 4x4 was identical to the original unit but at a reasonable price (£130) .

As miggit says earlier in this topic,ignore the manual...remove plastic under tray, disconnect transmission oil pipe assembly and two coolant pipes. Catch fluids in suitable containers - I actually clamped off both coolant pipes to minimise losses. Remove 4 bolts securing cooler to block and remove. After re fitting new unit transmission oil will need topping up. Oh and new O rings should be fitted to transmission oil pipes/cooler coupling. Took me about 3 hours,not rushing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info May have to be doing this shortly. EGR stat done, engine stat next and if that doesn't cure cool running then it's this one.
