Would the car not revert to its original plate anyway when you took yours off, if that was a cherished plate it wouldn't necessarily go back on and the car would go back to its given Reg.

Its possible that the car was registered as new on a personal plate and so never had an age plate allocated and then when that was taken off a mistake was made at the DVLA and the wrong age plate issued. Not sure how that would get sorted.

It must have a cherished plate on, it's amazing how many people just let them go when they sell the car. There is a registration very close to my initial and surname which I'd always kept an eye on, I tapped it into google recently and it had been sold on a very ratty punto for £500 via gumtree a year ago!

It's a strange choice of it is a cherished plate, can see the MD bit but XUV.... doesn't strike me as a cherished number, that link Skot put up is very interesting. Mine has had 3 different plates but started on it's given plate of YD12 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That was the plate on the car when we bought it from Lloyd LR just over two years ago. So is the consensus that it must be a cherished plate even if it means not a lot to anyone other than whomever had it originally?

I don't think that the registration rules allow a newer plate on an older car, ie that could appear to show the car as being newer than it is. Onto my 2nd FFRR, this time an L405 5.0L SC AB in SVO Palette black. |
