Can anyone explain how to tell whether a 4.4V8 has the BMW engine or the Jaguar? I understand that it changed sometime around 2006, so older cars will definitely be BMW, and later ones definitely Jaguar, but can't find a definitive guide as to exactly when the model changed in production.

Are there any visual clues?

Yes visually the BMW engine sits lower and looks like a BMW engine but the Jag sits higher and has a raised rib affair on the engine cover.

However the 4.4 V8 Engine change is associated with the body facelift so that's much easier to spot without lifting the bonnet.....
