Cost of ownership in France

So is it better to take a uk vehicle over to France or buy a French RR ??

What would you like to know exactly (I own French and GB reg LRs)

322 are more expensive in France but show virtually no rust.
In france there is only a one off fee when you get the vehicle (circa 800 to 1000 for a 3.6 TDV8 for instance, 4.4L TDV8 do get a €120 per annum extra fee)
In the UK there is no one-off fee but you pay roadtax every year, from £300 to 500 for a 322.
insurance is simmilar either side of the Channel.
Petrol and Diesel are marginaly cheaper in France
There are less LR indies in France, yet enough to get you 322 service easily.

Thanks yes good info I think we will take the current one over as a hack and buy a newer one in France it would seem to work out cheaper to register or buy French

France 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Giverny Green

When I decided to replace my Disco with a TD6 I started by looking in the UK & then comparing with prices here in France. For a start there were hardly any for sale over here & the prices were all over the place, from 8k for a shed upto circa 30k for a TD6. And of course France is a big country & most of those available were hundreds of KM's away, mostly in the mountains (which makes sence) But as it happens I found a good one about 50kms from me which though over priced by UK standards once I took into consideration of the trip to the UK, the chance of it being a wasted journey, the cost of bringing it back & going through the hassle of registering it and believe me it can be a hassle, I know I've done a few. Plus all the costs of registering & cert of conformity it just wasn't worth it. and of course its going to be RHD which is OK but not ideal. As for cost of ownership I do all the small stuff myself & get my parts from the UK. Of course when my gearbox went a few months ago it had to go in to my only local indy 200kms away! this job probably cost about 1k more than it would've done in the UK but what do you do?

France 2007 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver

Cars older as 10 years pay half of the reg costs, LPG cars pay only the CO2 tax (approx 300) once.
FE a 2012 V8 petrol with 23 fiscal HP costs you 1600 euro once for the reg. "carte grise"

If your French is good enough Cool

Every region has an other tax level, but the differences are max. around 15%. There is no roadtax!.
Some cities like Paris, Grenoble, Lyon etc. are obliging you to buy a "vignet" if you want to pass or cross.
Every car with a Vignet 5 or 6 and big Diesels will probably be banned in the future (2022?)and can be banned now if the air quality is to low in those areas.

There is no import tax on used cars from the EU. the only costs wil be a COC (250) and you need a French one!

The above costs are based on a DIY procedure. There are companies on the web that can do it for you.
The reg. costs and the tax are the same for a car bought here or in the UK. RR's are more expensive here.
