4.4 SDV8 engine noise when cold

Can I ask other sdv8 owners how their engine sounds when it is stone cold...say first thing in a morning?
And I really mean from when listening stood outside the car not sat inside (the sound proofing hides a lot of the noise)

Reason I ask is this. I know it is a diesel and so they always sound a bit clunky. But mine when stone cold sounds absolutely dreadful with a very particularly loud clunky noise (think old school -think the noise a worn big end bearing might make). When warmed up it sounds absolutely fine and as normal as I would expect. My old L322 TDV8 (which is pretty much the same engine I believe) didn’t make anywhere near this noise when cold.

Oil level is fine.

Getting paranoid something major is wrong with the mechanicals. Big Cry

Thanks

I would arrange to park it outside at the dealers overnight, but keep hold of the keys, then get them to check it out first thing the following morning to give their opinion, and you ,peace of mind.

yeah - will get them to have a listen in the new year. I was just wondering if other L405 sdv8's sounded the same.
As from my other threads you will have seen I get fed up of arguing with dealerships on warranty claims so I just want to make sure the noise isn't "normal" before I start with the arguments.

You can imagine the push back I will get if there really is a genuine issue with something like big end bearings. It will cost them thousands and thousands on a warranty claim to fix something like that. They are not going to admit fault easily. Shocked

A warranty claim is underwritten by an insurance company, the dealership shouldn’t care either way.

Sadly it’s not that straight forward.
Dealerships get paid a much lower rate by the warranty underwriter and also they have much more leverage over dealers as to what they approve and don’t. Dealers would much rather just do servicing on which they make a ridiculous margin. Apart from obvious or catastrophic failure they will always push the dealer to defer any work hopefully until they are no longer liable. You won’t believe the number of times in the last 12 years I have gone to LR dealers with problems and they “pretend” they can’t find / hear faults while under warranty but miraculously the minute the warranty has expired ......

I don't know if this helps Fleagle but I live in Stalybridge so if you are not too far away you could always nip over and listen to mine one day and if you let me know I will make sure it hasn't been started before hand. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20
I swear you will never see anything like this ever again....watch it..drink it in.

I feel the fact that your instinct tells you something isn't right suggests to me that something is very wrong pal , I wouldn't wait for it to go pop if I was you and don't let the stealers fob you off with the old " that's perfectly normal" BS
