Want to give the FF a really decent bath ...

So after washing and clay mitting, am going to polish, glaze and wax.

With limited time, a DA Polisher seems an obvious buy.

But as I'm new to it all I don't want to spend a fortune.

Does anyone use a cheapy DA they'd recommend? What do I put here then?

I'd been looking at all of those, hence the question.

So far I think I should be opting for one of these:

Meguiars DA Power system - the cheapest option but, of course, it's something you attach to your drill.

Kestrel DAS-6

What looks like a rebranded version of the Kestrel from cleanyourcar.co.uk What do I put here then?

I have one and they are great and you can get a really good shine and buff out minor imperfections without the fear of buring through the paint. I wouldnt bother with one of those meguirs drill attachments it would be difficult to use based on the angle and having the drill in the way. Have a look on ebay as they start about £40 up to a couple of hundred mine was about £80 and came from germany with a variety of pads and wash accesories and is decent quality and powerful. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

This is the kit i got but got it off ebay and its good im sure some upgraded pads would make it even better. Think i paid about £70 but that was a couple of years ago. It looks identical to the poorboys one which costs a lot more. Dont think you need to spend the earth if your using it for diy and weekend detailing. You will end up buying compounds waxes snowfoam guns clay bars and mits and everything else once you start reading the likes of detailing world etc and get ocd and the costs begin to spiral!

I couldn't get a decent shine on my black FF. It had a life of 'hand car washes' before I bought it thus was very dull and full of scratches / swirl marks.

I almost gave up and contemplated a re-spray but thought I'd try a DA first.

I bought the cheap challenge one from Argos for around £55 as it had very good reviews and used it alongside autoglym super resin polish as recommended by a few people, using paint renovator in particularly bad areas.

I honestly couldn't believe the results. As I say, I'd pretty much wrote the paintwork off.

Trick is to take your time and mask all the areas you don't want catching with polish, keep the pad moist and do one panel at a time. It took me around 10 - 15mins a panel initially but we'll worth the effort.

GAC23, cleanyourcar are doing £15 off a DAS6 Pro machine - I got the necessary code from Detailing World [DAS6GROUPBUY]. I added Chemical Guys polishing pads and some Meguiars Ultimate Compound. All for £128.80 delivered.
Note that the Pro version has a more powerful motor and long 6 metre cable, and cleanyourcar also throw in a carry bag.

I'll post up some pictures of my (Sumatra Black) car once I've had a go. I think I'll practise on my daughter's old Yaris first though!
