hi can anyone help got 05 plate td 6 it has started an intermittent fuel leak over last two weeks for instance last sun/mon nothing tue start up nothing switch off go into house to get coat come out start up to go leaking again its only a couple of table spoons full garage said replace pump required engine starts on button ticks over smooth drives smooth any ideas ps drips at front about 1 ft in

are sure its fuel leaking ? ... - .- -.

yes defo diesel put fingers in it just to make sure wiff of diesel when near car have put tray under car to save tarmac drive cheers

Check the fuel hose on top of the high-pressure pump, If the jubilee clip is lose it can leak randomly dependant on temperature 2007 TDV8 VSE

that sounds like the pipe the garage done last Thursday said was loose they put new clip on it found it was still leaking Saturday booked back in Monday that's when they said needs new pump just started up after few seconds dripping put hand under drips def deasel but stops after a few seconds but thanks for the reply cheers rog

Probably the high pressure fuel pump seals that have failed. It's quite a common issue.

Seals kits are quite cheap but it's an absolute pain of a job to do as the pump is quite a job to remove then obviously it will have to be completely stripped and rebuilt with new seals.

Probably still work out cheaper than buying a new / recon pump though.

I am no expert on these high-pressure pumps but I was under the impression that when they go south it's internal, not external leaks. I would remove the pipe, cut off 1cm then put back and tighten properly using a socket, not a screwdriver. You can get at it fairly easy just by removing the front engine/fan cover. I had to do mine for similar reasons, very diy easy ) This pic is from a BMW site but you get the idea.[img]

Did you do it yourself or get a garage to do it? Did they explain how it was leaking externally if it was not the hoses I pointed out? From all the reading I have done the BMW's version of the CP3 pump doesn't have an external weeping hole so the only place to leak is from the external hose connections or the seals which if failing allow fuel to pass into the timing chain case and contaminate the engine oil.

hi wayneg had a second opinion by a range rover specialist after first garage done pipe on top of pump but still leaking they sent pump away for repair have checked oil level just below full mark so don't think was leaking into sump cheers rog

When mine was dropping diesel it was the cabin pre heater. it wasn't igniting and fuel wasn't been burnt off. I had tank supply disconnected

hi yes the cabin heater was investigated but that was ok ( pity that would have been a cheaper fix ) cheers rog
