Hi - im a newbie just found forum - looks great - asking for some advice.

Last week or so I've been getting odd jerky gear changes on my 2014 Range Rover Vogue 3.0TD6 - the car has 35000 miles on the clock but had a new engine 5000 miles ago under LR warranty - apparently, this is a known issue.
the colder the weather the worse the jerking.

Basically, until the car warms up all the changes are rough and jerky and once or twice its almost got stuck in one gear then tried to change twice. doing some reading online - how i found this forum - it might be a transmission fluid problem or possibly a stuck solenoid?? I'd appreciate your opinion on this.

Once warm - it drives fine.. overnight in a garage it's a little rough but leave it parked outside my work for 8 hours in the cold we've had last week or so and it's as rough as anything for 5-10mins.

I'm still under warranty and I plan on contacting the dealer on Monday - but I find that unless I know what to ask they have a habit of just fobbing me off or doing the minimum.

However today on the way home from work. 1 it wasn't that cold and 2 I'd done a short shift - going around a roundabout I got a restricted performance warning that meant I had to drive home in limp mode. My neighbour has just connected his code reader to the car and got a P242B error - which seems to be something to do with exhaust gas. Now I'm not mechanical and I've no idea is this error - the cause of both issues - or am I really unlucky and have 2 problems?

The yellow check engine light came on for a while but appears to have gone now having started the car a few time.

Any thoughts info advice welcome!

On BMW which uses the same ZF 8 speed auto you can reset the box by doing the following

Turn on the car such that all the accessory lights are on but the motor is not running, depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor, keep the pedal there for 30 seconds and the transmission will reset to the original factory settings (it will "unlearn" the adaptive settings).

But how you do this in a RR , I don't know but I bet someone will be along shortly to tell us and I bet its by some Dealer only tool LOL

do you think that will help? not sure why the P242 error??

P242A Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit - bank 1, sensor 3
P242B Exhaust gas temperature sensor - circuit range/performance (bank 1, sensor 3)
P242C Exhaust gas temperature sensor - circuit low (bank 1, sensor 3)
P242D Exhaust gas temperature sensor - circuit high (bank 1, sensor 3)
P242E Exhaust gas temperature sensor - circuit intermittent/erratic (bank 1, sensor 3)
P242F Diesel particulate filter restriction - ash accumulation

Might be a job for a specialist ??

ok managed to get hold of the dealer.

they think the code is a sensor.. and they will check it.

they say the rough gear changes might be a programming problem - they say they've seen it before and a firmware update often fixes it. fair enough - however, given on the internet loads of older RR owners not L405 say the symptoms could be a transmission problem ive got them to agree to look at that as well.. whether they do.. and what that means im not sure - again on the net - people say flush and change the trans oil a few times - check the filters and solenoids. whether they will do that or just plug it in and say there is nothing wrong.. remains to be seen. they are quite helpful and friendly when you get through - i just suspect they dont "strip things down" they just check a few codes. Its also not that close and they never seem to have a loan car for weeks which is a pain especially when they says things are fine and the symptoms are still there the next day.... whinge mode off..
