LPG Shortage

Hi All

Just got back from 3 weeks away, to discover most of my usual filling stations out of LPG.

Seems to be common theme around the country. Has anyone heard any reasons for it and how long the shortage is likely to last?

One of the main ones I usually stop at told me they wouldn't have any for 'at least 6 days' this was on Saturday. Managed to fill up somewhere else though and didn't think too much of it at the time. Have to say I have never known a station to run out until now so shows something must be up!

Two of my three regular local LPG garages have run out,

Fortunately the garage that still has plenty of supplies left is the cheapest at 62p a litre Mr. Green

Just goes to show how poor our reserves are. I understand what we have is bieng held over for heating. Here in Devon supplies have been exhausted for 2 to 3 weeks now. 90% of garages in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset I would say have run out.

Sounds about right OMG, even Calor in Exeter have stopped selling it.

Looks like a more expensive couple of months coming up until it warms up a bit! Laughing David

Calor in Exeter is the cheapest I have found in this area, wish it was just a bit closer! Oakhampton is in between and is usually around 60p - I try and go there as a protest for the price BP Barnstaple charge! For the Calor depots to have no LPG available really does demonstrate how tight supplies must be - I presume they have it on site but are holding it back (I wonder if the Dept of energy can make them do that?).

I don't think there is a problem getting LPG for household use (heating etc), just for cars.......

Do you? How I would love to be able to do that, it would change everything! My own fuel depot and no longer having to drive an hour to the nearest LPG station (which I still do). Is your tank solely for this use or do you use it for heating also? Is it legal to have the ability to fill a car from it? I would be happy to install one at the house just for my car, I don't suppose anyone filling it would know I am on oil central heating - would they notice an attachment to fill up a car and be concerned? Sorry a lot of questions, but you have peaked my curiosity/interest!

Used to fill our boat up from it now just forklifts and cars. You can get them but it’s not easy I hear had this for around 20 years now. We have to pay a yearly charge on the tank and pump. The attachment is just a screw in adaptor can be removed after every fill up.
