towing might be one of main reasons for torque converter misperformance. One of the key sign is rpm fluctuation as shown on the video in this thread. Usually rpm fluctuates in the range of 250-500 rpm. Additionally, accelerating from 30mph up to 35-40 mph you can fill torque converter slipping.

Slippage

When accelerating through the lower gears there definately seems to be some slippage going on - and that is when the whine is most noticeable. I would have thought this was more a gearbox problem rather than torque converter. I have not noticed any engine speed fluctuation and once in the upper gears and locked up it is fine. I suppose when you have 2.7 tonnes to move and 270hp to move it the gearbox is always going to be the weakest link.
