So whilst doing the rear lower hub bushes yesterday I noticed a fair bit of rust on the swinging arms/wishbones. I happened to brush some of it with my finger and a small bolt with a large washer just hit the ground!
It fixes onto the bottom of the rear air suspension unit where it comes through said swinging arm/wishbone. Surely a 6mm bolt isn’t holding all that together? What does it do?
I’ll have to drill and tap what’s left and fit a new one I suppose.

Is it the small one in the centre of the air bag pointing straight down under the radius arm with a big washer? I normally use it to line my jack up when raising the rear of the fatty
If so I believe it holds the air bag in place along with 1/4 of 2.5 tonnes of Range Rover and gravity.
I don’t think it would even come into play if you get airborne due to the travel in the suspension but you don’t want the airbag to pop out if you jack it up with wheels hanging down.

On the discovery 2 the airbag at the top is held on by 2 thin metal clips, so gravity and weight must hold land rover air springs.

When you take a rear air spring out, you will see why only minimal securing is required at both ends  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember
