There is a strange metalic clicking noise coming from the front of the engine in my 2006 Supercharged. I have captured a video recording of the noise, link below. Does anyone know what it might be? There are no other symptoms!

It only happens for the first minute or so from a cold start and it doesnt change with engine speed. It has done it for quite a while now but Im sure it used to only do it when the weather was cold, but this video was taken earlier today in 23 degree heat.

Could be, it's the right sort of location

At idle, surely the belt tensioner pulley would spin way faster than that sound, it would be a much faster tick ... that being said, i reckon the tick frequency would be more consistent with the time it takes for the belt itself to do a full revolution around all the pulleys.

could your belt have a nick / tear / stone in it thats catching something as it does a full cycle. ? V8 or else ...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm having this same problem. Being very cold atm It clicks for about 5 minutes and stops. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Turned out to be the viscous fan coupling in the end. Swapped that and never heard the noise since!

If I start and let it idle, I get a regular clicking. Blip the throttle and it stops and doesn't come back.
Local independent said it is possible for the air con to click on/off. ? ?
Had a recharge and didn't notice it again. I could only hear it when standing in front of the vehicle. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012
