Noise from front wheel/ driveshaft? Or something else?

Howdy doo fellow fatties Wink My 2008 tdv8 3.6 latest gremlin is a noise seemingly coming from the front end when the car is taking a bend at say 20mph upwards, left or right with the usual bit of body roll, it’s not there when on the straight and narrow, trying to describe a noise in words is awkward but it’s a pulsing sound which suggests to me a rotating part, it’s kinda wha, wha, wha, but low frequency, not shrieking or high pitched, I’m thinking wheel bearing or front driveshaft issue? Would it be likely both sides needing doing or just the one?
Are these diy repair jobs or garage only cos of special tools etc. Many thanks for any assistance. Fullfatrr is a godsend! Thumbs Up 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

It’s probably bearings, I did mine and it’s not as simple as it seems, removing the sideshafts can be a nightmare, took me approx 4 days with special tooling I made to loosen one, the other took 20 minutes.. then you need tooling to remove the entire knuckle assembly from the various control arms, and you absolutely need a press to push the old bearing out, and the new one in. Holding the knuckle in place on the press can be beyond frustrating. I am fortunate enough to have a lathe and mill in the garage so I was able to machine correct spacers and adaptors to make the job less frustrating, and even then is was a chore.

I live in a very dry climate, you would be amazed at how good my 2011 fatty looks on the underside thanks to little humidity and no salt on the roads in winter, and still I battled like a dog to pull things apart, can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like on a vehicle exposed to high humidity..

You also need the mother of all torque wrenches to tighten the sideshaft nut to spec once done..

I do have a write up in a local 4x4 forum with a good few pics, link below if anyone is interested in pictures of some oil and a dirty garage...

Wow! Shocked I’m a reasonable mechanic but it definitely seems beyond my abilities, I guess it’s going to have to be entrusted to Land Rover specialist..££££££ Big Cry

Same noise here. Yeah not the clunk of a half shaft but an out of round sound that doesn't change with brakes but is speed dependent. Haven't had mine on a lift yet but I'm guessing wheel bearing. Well off to my favorite mechanic.

Can you be certain this isn't simply tyre noise coming from part worn tyres? Our, admitedly old, (2003) M62 V8 version starts doing what I think you are describing once the tyres get down to about 3-4mm tread depth. I've searched for bearings the past, but as soon as the tyres are replaced it goes away. Drives:

I was just at the Indie shop but the mechanic is Land Rover/Jaguar /BMW certified . I've got the low tone wa wa wa that is best heard with windows up and primarily in right turn corners. What my mechanic reminded me was that I just had the tires rotated and the rears have a bit of feathering. He drove it, checked for play and spun right and left wheels feeling for vibration. His opinion was it was possible the bearing is just starting to go but couldn't feel any play. The feathering could also be the issue and suggested I put a couple hundred more miles on it and if it doesn't change to next rotated the feathered tires back to the rear and see if it changes. If that doesn't do it then probably a very early wheel bearing.

Having just read my way through Marcochezzi's post on the link provided, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to changing the front wheel bearings... Shocked Shocked
