Spent 37 years working in the Oz international telecoms business starting as a trainee radio technician the day I turned 17, worked in satellite Comms, submarine cable system, submarine cable repair, facility manager - then took redundancy. Started the next day as a trainee railway signaller and, when qualified, worked as a relief signaller in various Sydney signal boxes controlling trains.
