I believe they fail to realize that old, fat farts in jeans was the receipt for success.
I am not familiar with these gentlemen, but I sure hope they haven't assembled a bunch of US-style Total car bros'.

I’m amazed the BBC have went for 3 white men. I was convinced there’d be a transgender, gay black woman in there. Especially after the release over pay equality.

I don't know why but I looked up some of the figures Sad

Too many opinions from those who claim to know, but here goes (I'm just the messenger and Stan stop giving me silly ideas Laughing ): JC and co regular numbers over 6 million, last one 6.9million, Evans 1.9million average, Le Blanc 2.8million average. Twisted Evil Cheers

You have to keep trying until it works again.

10/10 for effort BBC.

It never ceases to amaze how things get written off even before they have chance to prove themselves.

Bit like LR CSC and LR techies.

Paddy actually comes across as a funny down to earth chap. Whether thats the real him or not I don't really care but can see him bringing a bit of life to the show. I have never seen FFlintoff as other than F1 there is not really any sport on in our house.

I never watched a Chris Evans show, his voice goes through me on the radio so much I change the station if he is on.

Matt Leblanc and Chris Harris were watchable but were just missing something. I tend to record most things these days and watch them later just so I've got FF which was used nearly everytime Rory Reids mug popped up, he bored me to death and can't drive for toffee.

If there is a chemistry between these 3 then I think they could make it work, I genuinely think kicking Rory Reid off the main show is a step in the right direction to getting the viewing figures up. Current

Additional to Clarkson, I thought, in years gone by, TG had been presented by motoring journalists and petrol head experts. A quick google:

"From 1986 to 1991, faced with repeated threats from various channel controllers from the BBC to cancel the programme, Top Gear embarked on subtle changes designed to raise its profile, increase its audience and cover a much wider range of motoring topics. In this period, many new presenters were added, including former Formula One driver Tiff Needell, Tom Boswell and rallying's Tony Mason.

Towards the end of 1988, Jeremy Clarkson was introduced to the presenting list by producer Bentley, coming from Performance Car Magazine."

No idea what the newest breed credentials are on that score...

I think they should have Vicky Butler-Henderson or Sabine Shmitz as well.

VBH is on 5th gear so unless the BBC offered her a shed load of money I doubt she will switch.

The thing that clarkson, may, and hammond had was mass appeal and personality.
They made the program appeal to not just the petrol heads, but the rest of the family too. We used to make time to sit down and watch it together.
To be honest I got bored with it when they started doing all their major trips. It was entertaining, but not much about the cars any more.

I think Matt was good, he was a likeable person, and clearly Chris Harris can drive, plus he has a bit of a laugh from time to time. I too FF'd through anything with Rory. He bought nothing to the program imo.
As for Chris, he was keen but too shouty.

As for Paddy and Freddy, they have mass appeal again. Regardless of what they know about cars they are both entertaining to watch on their other programs so they will hopefully get the viewing figures up again.

Personally if I want to know something about cars I watch 5th gear.
Mind you, I watched the caterham / atom / radical / zenos program last night. It would be so much better if they drove all of them on each section rather than knocking one out on each round. It was clear the radical would go out on the sprint, yet it would have likely beat both of them on the couple of laps. Too many toys, not enough time
